About Allie & Mark

Who are we? We are a couple in our 30’s who love to travel and we’ve left our jobs to travel the world in 2010 and 2011. Native Californians, we met at a white trash theme party in the heady days of the first Dot Com bubble, and have shared adventures together ever since!

Allie and Mark

About Allie:

Allie grew up in the small Central Valley town of Riverbank, CA, aka known as “The City of Action” due to its former incarnation as the county’s red-light district. But when Allie was growing up most of the action had up and left, so she channeled her energies into books and imagined visiting the places she read about. Paris! The Outback! Greece! Africa!

After graduating from U.C. Berkeley, she worked for a year and then took a year off to travel solo, visiting the Middle East, Sub-Sahara Africa, Australia and New Zealand. Having exhausted her bank account, she returned to the Bay Area ready to get to work (digital marketing) and plan for another extended trip abroad. And she met Mark, her partner in adventure…

About Mark:

Mark is an Orange County native, hailing from the slightly inland city of Costa Mesa. Mark’s parents gave him the love of the road trip, criss-crossing the western United States to visit practically every National Park in existence. Another formative travel experience for Mark was joining the All-American Boys Chorus, a respected choir group that traveled across the U.S. and Canada for two months a year, where Mark learned the joys of extended bus travel. He also recommends visiting Stampede Days in Calgary, one of his favorite singing venues.

Also an alumni of U.C. Berkeley, Mark enjoys a career selling consumer electronic products, a field that enables him to travel extensively AND satisfies his inner geek.

Hi Mark and Allie,
Looks like you made the waiting all worth while.
I can report that your parents are minding their manners and are still delightful to play with so we will. B&S

I hope you two are enjoying life. At first when Mark sent me a bottle of Bourbon I thought it was in appreciation for being such a great guy to work with. Now, having taken calls on everything from lost POs from Costco to broken cameras atAmazon I realize the bourbon is necessary to keep me sane.

I hope you two are enjoying the trip. It is great to read the updates. Keep safe.

Mark and Allie –
I am so glad that Steve pointed me in the direction of your blog! I think it is amazing that you are taking time off to travel the world – you both deserve every minute of it!!
I look forward to catching up by reading your posts and then keeping abreast of all of your amazing experiences.
Biggest news in my life right now is our almost 8 week old son, James. He is absolutely adorable and certainly keeps us busy.
Have a wonderful time and lots of love to you both,
